Frequently Asked Questions About Personal Injury Cases
When people come to the law office of Alan S. Friedman after an accident, we often hear many of the same questions. While it is true that no two cases are the same, many of the same principles apply.
1. How Much Money Will I Get?
There is no right answer to this question. The amount of compensation you will ultimately recover will depend on the extent of your injuries, the amount of work you miss, the insurance coverage of the negligent party and the quality of your representation. We can work with outside experts to determine what you deserve and fight tirelessly for it.
2. What Will It Cost Me To Talk To A Lawyer?
There is no financial risk to working with an experienced personal injury attorney like Mr. Friedman. We accept all of our cases on a contingency fee basis, meaning you will owe no legal fees if we fail to recover compensation for you. If we are successful, your fees will be a portion of that compensation. You will never owe any out-of-pocket costs.
3. How Long Will My Case Take?
Again, there is no one answer to this. Depending on the extent of your injuries and the amount of compensation you are pursuing, the case could take a few months or it could take a few years. Just as we would never advise you to accept a lowball settlement offer, we would never tell you to needlessly drag out your case for no reason.
4. The Insurance Company Wants To Settle. Shouldn’t I Just Take The Offer?
You can be sure that after your accident, an insurance adjuster will likely offer you a quick settlement. The adjuster may even say that this is the “best offer you will get.” Do not accept a settlement without first talking to an attorney who can look deeper into your case and determine if you may be able to recover more.
5. How Long Do I Have To Take Action?
The statute of limitations for filing a lawsuit differs depending on the case. In most cases, you will have at least two years. However, if you wait too long you could miss your chance. After an accident or incident of medical malpractice, you should always consult with an attorney as quickly as possible.
